Best known for his role as Hawkeye Pierce in the popular television series M*A*S*H and his portrayal of Arnold Vinick in The West Wing. His film credits include The Aviator, What Women Want, Tower Heist and The Longest Ride.
He worked on the WFUV radio station at Fordham University.
He has been a professor at SUNY Stony Brook.
He married Arlene Alda in 1957. Together they had three children.
