Alexander graduated from the Connecticut-based college-preparatory school of Hopkins in 2000. He went on to attend Boston College as a Philosophy major. At age 25, he made his film debut in 2007 in the Will Smith drama I Am Legend (2007). He secured work across the latter 2000s including the film short The Grind (2008), Melrose Place (2009), Doi Dieu Tra Hien Truong (2000), CSI: Miami (2002), 90210 (2008) and Single Ladies (2011). However, it is his lead role in the New Line horror film Lights Out (2016), with Teresa Palmer and Maria Bello. Alexander also holds stage credits and one music video appearance.
