Next, he annexed the public mineral fertilizers maker Silvinit to MMK, along with two other producers of fertilizers. But the alliance broke just few years later because of an excessive reserve sharing. In 2005 MMK focused on Silvinit's production only, but after Silvinit merged with another huge fertilizer company, Uralkali, in 2011, MMK lost its potash contracts. Having built enough riches, Anatoly Lomakin decided to switch to politics. It was in August 2012 when he started serving as a deputy in Russia's State Duma as a member of Yedinaya Rossiya, the United Russia party founded by Vladimir Putin. In his tenure in the government, only one legislation was voted, i.e. a law banning Russian adoptions by U.S. citizens.
