Before Fame
As a senior in high school, he batted an absurd .564 and was named the ABCA/Rawlings National High School Player of the Year as well as Ohio Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year. Before heading to the University of Arkansas, he was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in 2013, but did not sign with the organization.
Trivia
In 2015 as a member of the University of Arkansas Razorbacks, he was named SEC Player of the Year and the Baseball American College Player of the Year after leading the SEC in batting average (.380), home runs (19) and on-base percentage, slugging percentage and walks. He also won the Dick Howser Trophy and Golden Spikes Award.
