Runner who became the first man from India to compete in more than 100 marathons, a feat made all the more remarkable by the fact that he did not take up running until he was in his 50's. He detailed his passion for running in his book The Joy of Running, released in 2011.
He served in the Indian Air Force for 21 years, achieving the rank of Wing Commander. He then began practicing cardiology in New Delhi in 1978.
