She held a career in telecommunications before pursuing the culinary arts. She is a 1991 graduate of the University of Canterbury, with a dual degree in economics and Japanese.
In 2015, she appeared as one of the original judges on MasterChef: Asia. In the fall of 2015, she released her cookbook, My Kitchen, Your Table, across the UK, Australia, and Asia.
She grew up in Singapore. She gained an appreciation for cooking from her mother.
During her appearance on season 4 of MasterChef: Australia, George Calombaris, Gary Mehigan, and Matt Preston served as the competition's judges.
