She earned a bachelors in biology and psychology with a minor in chemistry from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.
Before being cast on the show, she was inspired by Survivor: Africa to spend her freshman year doing Service work out of a mud hut in Kenya.
Her husband John joined her in her third appearance on the reality series Survivor in Blood vs. Water.
She competed against both Ozzy Lusth and Yul Kwon in her first season on the hit series Survivor: Cook Islands.
