Singer and Actress who gained fame through popular Mandarin albums like 1998's Di Da Di as well as roles in Chinese films like 2004's Master of Everything. In 2001, she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original song for "A Love Before Time" from Ang Lee's martial arts epic Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
She was born in Hong Kong but grew up in the United States. In 1992, she went back to Hong Kong and was the runner-up in the 12th Annual New Talent Singing Awards, at which point she was offered a record deal by Capital Artists.
In 2001, she performed "A Love Before Time" at the Academy Awards, becoming the first person of Chinese ethnicity ever to perform at the ceremony.
She married Jewish-Canadian businessman Bruce Philip Rockowitz in July 2011. She has sisters named Nancy and Carol.
She collaborated with Singaporean pop star JJ Lin on the song "Smile Shanghai" for Shanghai World Expo 2010.
