After graduating from the University of Cambridge with first class honors, David Harding started a traineeship for stockbroker at Wood Mackenzie. Two years later, he began working for Johnson Matthey & Wallace, a future brokerage firm. In 1985, he joined Sabre Fund Management as one of the firm's earliest commodity trading advisors (CTAs) in the UK. After spending two years at Sabre, he teamed up with Martin Lueck and Michael Adam to found Adam, Harding & Lueck (AHL). A decade later, David Harding set up his investment management firm Winton Capital Management, which was launched with $1.6 million worth of assets. Just three years later, the firm had an average annual return of 18% and it is said to hold a total of $28.5 billion assets as of February 2012. While today, Winton manages around $25 billion in assets and employs more than 270 people. Harding still remains as the majority owner of the firm and he has been serving as the firm's president since 2013.
