Marshall is regularly ranked as one of wealthiest women in America thanks to what is believed to be a 15% stake in Koch Industries. She, along with some family members, inherited the stake in Koch in 2006 following the death of her husband, E. Pierce Marshall. Pierce's father J. Howard Marshall II owned approximately 16% of Koch at the time of his death in 1995. J. Howard was famously married to American actress/model Anna Nicole Smith for 14 months, right up to his death. After his death Anna waged a legal battle over what she thought she was owed from her late husband. The legal war made it all the way up to the United States Supreme Court TWICE. The ultimate result was that Anna did not receive a penny from either J. Howard's estate or Pierce's estate. Technically, Anna was Pierce and Elaine Marshall's step-mother and mother-in-law, respectively.
Elaine and Pierce Marshall met in Texas, where she still lives to this day. Their marriage produced two sons and several grandchildren.
