An American fiction Writer, children's author, and Historian, she is best known for her 1943 young adult novel, Johnny Tremain. Her other works include A Mirror for Witches (1928) and Paul Revere and the World He Lived In (1942).
She studied at Bradford Academy and later enrolled in several courses at the University of Wisconsin. In 1919, she began working for the editorial department of the Houghton Mifflin Company.
She won both the Pulitzer Prize and the Newbery Medal.
She was born in Westborough, Massachusetts. In 1926, she married attorney Albert Hoskins.
Her biography of Paul Revere won the Pulitzer Prize.
