About
King of Bahrain who has held that position since February of 2002. Before this appointment, he ruled as Emir of Bahrain since March of 1999. As King of Bahrain, he enjoys wide executive authorities which include appointing the prime minister and his ministers, commanding the army, and chairing the High Judicial Council.
He attended Manama secondary school in Bahrain. He was then sent to England to attend Applegarth College in Godalming, Surrey, before taking a place at The Leys School in Cambridge.
During his time as Emir of Bahrain, he brought several political reforms to the country. These included the release of all political prisoners, the dissolution of the State Security Court, and the abolition of the 1974 Decree on State Security Measures.
He has four wives and has had twelve children in total. They include seven sons and five daughters.
He met with Donald Trump in May of 2017.
