He studied at the Artistic Industrial School in Yekaterinburg and at the Drawing School of the Society for the Encouragement of the Arts in St Petersburg.
He was born Ivan Dmitriyevich Ivanov and took his pseudonym from his hometown of Shadrinsk.
His parents raised him in the town of Shadrinsk.
His work can be seen at the grave of the second wife of Joseph Stalin.
