Canadian professional ice hockey defenseman who played in the NHL for 11 seasons for a number of teams, including the Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia Flyers, New York Islanders. During his 11-year career, he scored 63 goals and 224 assists in 613 NHL games. He died in March 2022 at 72 years old.
He made his professional hockey debut in December 1969 with the Sprinfield Kings of the AHL.
Near the end of his playing career and following his retirement, he worked on Islander radio broadcasts. He won the Stanley Cup in 1980 with the team, although he spent the entire playoff run in the announcer's booth.
He was born and raised in Ottawa, Canada. His father, Armand, was a civil servant, and his mother, Lucille, was a caterer. His younger brother Denis Potvin and his cousin Marc Potvin also played professional hockey. He and his wife Lorraine had three children: Kim, Leslie, and Justin.
He played alongside Butch Goring on the Islanders' first two Stanley Cup winning teams in 1980 and 1981.
