Scottish National Party Politician who became Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Employment and Sustainable Growth in 2007. He was Leader of the Scottish National Party from 2000 to 2004.
He joined the Scottish National Party at the age of fifteen and became the National Secretary at the young age of twenty-two.
While serving as Finance Secretary, he was briefly censured for his involvement in the lapse of the Scottish Variable Rate; however, it was later revealed that the Problem was due to an IT system issue.
His marriage produced three children.
He served as Cabinet Secretary under First Minister Alex Salmond.
