Member of the Reform Party who served as the 28th Prime Minister of New Zealand from 1960 to 1972. He is one of the longest serving New Zealand Prime Ministers in the history of the country.
He ended his schooling to work on his family tobacco farm at age 12.
He also held office as the 13th Governor-General of New Zealand from 1977 to 1980.
He and his wife Dame Norma Janet Ingram had five children.
He served as the Prime Minister of New Zealand under English monarch Queen Elizabeth II .
