At the time of her death, this Supercentenarian was the oldest living woman and second oldest living person alive. She lived nineteen days past her 115th birthday.
A native of Tokyo, Japan, she later settled in the city of Kawasaki, Kanagawa prefecture.
In late 2011, after Chiyono Hasegawa passed away, Okubo earned the title of oldest living Asian woman.
In her later years, she lived in a nursing facility where her son was also a resident.
When she died, she was younger than only Jiroemon Kimura, a fellow Japanese citizen.
