The Amish are known for simple living, plain dress, and reluctance to adopt many conveniences of modern technology, which they refer to as "English." Lebanon Levi serves as part of the "Amish Mafia", a group of four Amish men who protect the Amish community in the area. He acts as judge and jury regarding Amish law within the community, as well. He is also part of the local fire department. He is currently featured on the Discovery Channel series, Amish Mafia, which follows Levi, and his fellow "soldiers" as they operate within the Amish community. The show began airing in December of 2012, and ran for six episodes, it is now in its third season. The program has come under intense fire by Amish scholars. Additionally, many of the scenes are re-enactments based on eyewitness accounts, though it is unclear which scenes are real, and which are re-enactments. This has left many viewers and reviewers scratching their heads, and critics calling the show irresponsible.
