Born Noel Lee on December 25, 1948 in San Francisco, California, he earned a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the California Polytechnic State University. Upon graduation, he started to work in laser fusion for the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Being musically talented, Lee decided to quit his engineering post in 1972 to play the drums for a country rock band. Following the band separation few years later, he kept on doing solo gigs for six months before landing an engineering job at Lawrence Berkeley Lab. Bored at his job and being an audiophile for Lee meant inventing his own loudspeaker cable in his garage. Thus, he set up Monster Cable Products in 1979 to manufacture his product. Even though Lee's audio cables weren't accepted at first, their better performance and good quality earned them a place on the market. Today, Noel Lee earns the credits for building the Monster business and shaping today's audio components market.
