Peter Alfond was born on May 17, 1952 in United States. Peter Alfond (d. 2017) spent three decades as a senior executive of Dexter Shoe Company, the business his father founded in 1958. He owed his wealth to a smart trade: In 1993 his father, Harold Alfond, sold the company to Warren Buffett in exchange for a chunk of Berkshire Hathaway stock. The Alfonds made a fortune from the rising value of those shares. Peter spent more than 30 years at Dexter, including a stint as president of PanAm Shoe, the base of the company's Caribbean operations. A prominent philanthropist, in 1994 he founded the Peter Alfond Foundation, which supports education and healthcare causes in New England and the Caribbean. He also sat on the board of his father's Harold Alfond Foundation, which has donated millions to universities and hospitals across Maine.
