Phoebe Hearst Cooke was born on July 13, 1927 in United States. Phoebe Hearst Cook is a granddaughter of media baron William Randolph Hearst and one of the heirs to his fortune. Her twin brother, George Hearst Jr., died in June 2012. In 2009, Cooke was deemed too ill to look after her own affairs and finances, so since then her family has acted as her conservators. The Hearst Corp. media empire today includes newspapers, magazines, TV and radio stations, and stakes in cable networks ESPN, Lifetime, and A&E. The cable holdings are doing especially well: Hearst Corp.'s 20% stake in ESPN is worth more than $18 billion. Hearst Corp. is owned by a trust that makes annual distributions to William Randolph Hearst's heirs. The family owns the 90,000-square-foot Hearst Castle in San Simeon, Calif; in 2005 the state paid the Hearsts $95 million to preserve the property.
