She earned both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in Business from Mount Carmel College, Bangalore.
For her performance as Seema in the 2003 Tamil film Jay Jay, she earned the Amrutha Surabi Film Award in the "Best Female Debut" category.
Born in Colombo, Sri Lanka to a family of Sinhalese heritage, she spent the majority of her childhood in India. She was once engaged to model Deepak Shanmuganathan but the couple later split.
