Jamaica's first female Prime Minister who was elected in 2006 and re-elected in 2012. She has also served her country as its Minister of Defense and its Minister of Development, Information and Sports.
She started out as a public servant in her hometown, and then joined the Jamaican parliament.
During her time in the Prime Minister's office, she took a stand for Jamaican independence from the British, and publicly supported the rights of gays and lesbians.
She married Errald Miller, the former CEO of Cable & Wireless Jamaica Ltd.
She and Kim Campbell, the first female PM of Canada, broke new ground for women politicians globally.
