American filmmaker who rose to fame in the 1980s for directing the low-budget comedy horror film Hobgoblins. He also directed the Vice Academy films, the first of which won USA Networks' B-Movie Award for Best Picture. His films have generally been poorly received by critics but have attracted a cult following over the years.
His feature film debut was the 1984 comedy horror film Blood Theatre. Gremlins director Joe Dante was one of his early inspirations.
