He was best known for being the bass player for the Southern hard rock band Molly Hatchet. The band formed in 1971 and Riff West was the bassist from 1981 to 1990. During that time the band released the album Take No Prisoners in 1981 which reached #36 on the Billboard 200 chart. Their album No Guts…No Glory was released in 1983 and reached #59 on the same chart. Molly Hatchet released the albums The Deed Is Done in 1984 and Lightning Strikes Twice in 1989. West also played on the album Double Trouble Live which was released in 1985 and reached #94 in the UK. He was also a member of the band Gator Country which was active from 2005 to 2010. Riff West passed away on November 19, 2014.
