His childhood Teacher, Mr. Ben Hancock, instilled in him a profound love of books. Before publishing his first book in 1978, Roy was a fourth-grade Teacher, himself.
He also wrote the Calendar Mysteries, geared for first- and second-grade readers.
He was born and raised in East Hartford, Connecticut. His birth name was Wallace Ronald Roy.
His works and those of fellow author, Judy Blume, were popular among younger readers.
