Most famous for a 1962 work titled Black Christ, this South African Painter was tortured under the apartheid regime for the political content of his artwork. Black Christ was housed in the United Kingdom until 1997, at which point it was returned to a post-apartheid South Africa.
He studied art at the Alexander Sinton Secondary School in Cape Town, South Africa.
His famous painting, Black Christ, showed politicians John Vorster and Hendrik Verwoerd flanking a crucified Albert Luthuli.
He grew up in a suburb of Cape Town, South Africa, as the son of william and Jeanette Harrison.
A replica of Black Christ was displayed at the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
