Remembered for his hit songs "Roses Are Red" (1962) and "Say Wonderful Things" (1963), this Northern Irish-born vocalist is also famous for having represented the United Kingdom at two successive Eurovision Song Contests.
His debut single, "Walk Hand in Hand," was released in 1956 and quickly rose to a number thirteen position on the UK Singles Chart.
A Politician as well as a performer, he campaigned unsuccessfully in both the 1997 and 2015 UK General Elections.
Following a brief first marriage to singer, Actress, and comedienne Millicent Martin, he married Olympic athlete June Paul, followed by Glenda Kentridge. All three marriages ended in divorce; his second and third marriages produced a total of four children.
He and British singer Dana Scallon were both political candidates and Eurovision Song Contest competitors.
