Civil Rights Activist who was the head of the Congress of Racial Equality.
Prior to entering his career, he studied chemistry at the City College of New York.
In 1967, he was appointed the first resident fellow at the Metropolitan Applied Research Center.
He was born in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.
He and Artist Adrian Piper are both graduates of the City College of New York.
