Former Pakistani international team captain that initially joined the men's national team at 20 years old in 2007. Since then he has played cricket professionally for the Karachi Whites as well as the Sindh Cricket, Quetta Gladiators, Yorkshire County Cricket Club and the Pakistan International Airlines Cricket teams. As team captain of the Pakistani national team, he led his squad to a 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. He is the 32nd team captain in Pakistani cricket history.
As a teenager, he won the 2006 ICC U-19 World Cup while playing for the Pakistani youth national team. He and his teammates defeated the Indian youth national team in the tournament's championship match.
Since joining the Pakistani men's national team in 2007, he has played in over 100 career international matches. He later made even more history, after receiving Pakistan's Sitara-i-Imtiaz honorary award at just 30 years old, becoming the youngest cricketer to achieve this feat in Pakistani history.
He lives along with his wife, Syeda, and their two children. They initially got married in 2015.
He played alongside Mohammad Hasnain as a member of the Quetta Gladiators during the 2023 club season.
