Known for having a complete skillset, he debuted in 2006-2007 for the New Jersey Devils and won a silver medal in the 2009 World Championships representing Canada.
He played for the Salmon Arm Silverbacks in the British Columbia Hockey League.
He played college hockey at the University of North Dakota.
He married Nicole Hekle in 2009. He has three brothers: Darcy, Kelly, and Nolan.
He joined legendary goalie Martin Brodeur on the Devils during the 2006-2007 season.
