Novelist who primarily wrote about folklore, especially surrounding the Ozarks region. He co-founded the Ozark Folklore Society, and saw his 1976 book Pissing in the Snow and Other Ozark Folktales become a bestseller in the US.
He graduated from Pittsburg State University in 1914. He subsequently gained his master's from Clark University.
