Australian rules footballer nicknamed "The King" who is widely regarded as one of the greatest players ever, earning seven All-Australian selections and four Syd Barker Medals as North Melbourne's best and fairest. He was named the Australian Football Media Association's Player of the Year in 1998 and won two AFL Premierships with the Kangaroos.
He was born in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales and got his start as a rugby league player. He turned to football at age 8.
Despite his success in football, he has struggled with substance abuse throughout his life. In February 2012, he was turned away from a speaking engagement at Barwon Prison after traces of cocaine were found on his clothing.
He has a daughter named Ella from his ex-wife Sally.
He and Andrew Swallow are both multiple-time recipients of the Syd Barker Medal.
