He was born in Pascagoula, Mississippi and raised in Tennessee. He was married to a woman named Betsy for over a decade. In 2014 he married Danielle Walker. He has two children named Elizabeth and Malachi.
He caught the eye of Tyler Perry during an impromptu performance in New York City and wound up working with Perry on the stage plays Laugh to Keep from Crying and Madea's Neighbors from Hell.
