About
19th-century poet and novelist who first gained recognition for his Fairytale Almanac of 1826. He went on to achieve significant popularity in Germany with the release of his historical novel, Lichtenstein. He passed away from typhoid fever in 1827, at the age of just 24.
He studied at the University of Tübingen.
Some of his work was adapted by the Nazi Party for propaganda. Christopher Morely translated his short story "The Young Foreigner" into English. Other works of his have lasted the test of time, and are still told in some German-speaking countries. He also wrote a bit of historical romance.
His father, August Friedrich Hauff, worked in the Württemberg ministry of foreign affairs.
His novel Lichtenstein was inspired by the novels of Walter Scott.
