Politician and former CIA clandestine officer who served as the U.S. representative for Texas's 23rd congressional district from 2015 to 2021. From 2019 until 2021, he was the only African-American Republican in the House of Representatives.
He is a graduate of John Marshall High School in Leon Valley, Texas. In 2000, he graduated from Texas A&M University, where he majored in computer science and minored in international relations.
From 2000 to 2009, he worked for the Central Intelligence Agency. He returned to Texas after his CIA service and worked as a partner with Crumpton Group LLC, a strategic advisory firm, and as a senior adviser with FusionX, a cybersecurity firm.
He is the son of Mary Alice Hurd and Robert Hurd. He has a brother, Chuck, and a sister, Elizabeth. He married Lynlie Wallace in December 2022.
In 2019, he was one of seven Republicans to break with the Donald Trump administration position and vote with Democrats to end a government shutdown.
