Former NBA point guard that played professionally from 1987 until 1995. He was originally drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks as a second round pick in 1987. During his NBA career, he played for the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets and Minnesota Timberwolves.
He initially began his collegiate basketball career at Southeastern Community College. After two seasons, he then transferred to Missouri State University. In high school, he was part of a team that played for the Indiana State Championship, but lost to a squad that also featured future NBA player Scott Skiles.
He played in exactly 511 games during his eight year NBA career. Over that eight year span, he scored 4,799 points and 2,421 assists. Following his playing career, he became a high school basketball coach in Gary, Indiana.
Growing up, he lived with his family in Gary, Indiana. His son, Darius Garland, was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2019.
He played alongside Chris Mullin as a member of the Warriors during his NBA career.
