German Journalist who was the last Deputy Commanding General for Germany in the National People's Army Air Force.
He was forced to move to Bautzen with relatives during World War II, and joined the National People's Army as a volunteer in 1957.
He was awarded with numerous honors, including the bronze Patriotic Order of Merit and the Medal 30th Anniversary of the Foundation of the GDR.
He had three children with his wife Karen.
Both he and Matt Lauer have had successful careers in Journalism.
