Japanese singer, songwriter, television personality, record producer, and entrepreneur. She is best known for her song "Flyday Chinatown," and for being a television and radio personality in Japan.

She learned classical music as a child and wanted to attend a music college to further her classical training. She failed to get accepted into a music college, so she began pursuing a career as a Japanese pop singer and television personality. She made her debut in 1981 with the single "Flyday Chinatown". Her debut album, called "Transit," was released the same year. She also began appearing in numerous television and radio programs beginning in 1979.

Her "Transit" album was strongly influenced by Billy Joel and his contemporaries. She published a book detailing her divorce from actor Koasa Shunpûtei. She was engaged for a time to an Iranian businessman named Mehdi Kazempour, whom she met on Facebook, but they eventually called off their engagement. The Pokémon character Wobbuffet is an homage to her father Sanpei.

She was born in Taitō, Tokyo to Japanese comedian Hayashiya Sanpei Ⅰ and novelist Ebina Kayoko. Her sister Midori Ebina is a former actress. Her two brothers Hayashiya Shōzō IX and Hayashiya Sanpei II followed in their father's footsteps and became comedians. She was previously married to actor Koasa Shunpûtei.

She and singer Miki Matsubara were contemporaries in the Japanese music industry.
