Later that night, Gable ran out to save Otis from a beatdown by Imperium after Otis' match with Kaiser.
Two weeks later on Raw, Gable challenged Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship and won by countout, ending Gunther’s undefeated singles streak on the main roster; however, as championships do not change hands by countout unless otherwise stipulated, Gunther remained champion.
Despite this, Gable became the first person to beat Gunther since he debuted on the main roster. On the September 4 episode of Raw, Gable fought Gunther for the Intercontinental Title in a rematch but Gunther won and made Gable's daughter cry in the process.
