TV Journalist who was the lead anchor for ABC World News and a co-anchor on Good Morning America. She was also an original host on ABC's news magazine show Primetime alongside Sam Donaldson.
As a senior in high school, she represented the state of Kentucky at America's Junior Miss scholarship pageant and took first prize. She then went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Wellesley College and briefly attended law school at the University of Louisville before concentrating on journalism.
From 1974 to 1978, she served as a literary assistant to U.S. President Richard Nixon.
She was married to movie Director Mike Nichols from 1988 until his death in 2014. Her mother, Jean, was an elementary school Teacher and her father, Tom, was a judge.
She and Charles Gibson were co-anchors on ABC's Good Morning America from 1999 to 2006.
