This Moderate Party Politician and former President of the European Council took office in 2006 as Prime Minister of Sweden. Elected to a second term in 2010, he continued to deal with the aftermath of his country's 2008 and 2009 financial crisis.
In his late teens, he became a member of Sweden's Moderate Youth League. Later, he served in the Swedish military and earned a degree in economics and Business from Stockholm University.

He and his two brothers grew up in Stockholm and London. His twenty-year marriage to fellow Moderate Party Politician Filippa Holmberg resulted in three children: Ebba, Eric, and Gustaf.
Often compared to British Prime Minister and Conservative Party member David Cameron, he successfully changed his country's perception of the Moderate Party from a conservative entity to a truly middle-ground organization.
