Long distance Runner who, in 1982, became the first British man to win the London Marathon. He later broke the record at the Stockholm Marathon with a time of 2:11:37.
He competed in long distance running at Latymer Upper School and the University of Liverpool.
After his retirement from running, he became the Editor of Distance Running magazine and President of the Road Runners Club.
He has a son named Nathan and daughters Coral, Ella and Holly.
He and Kenya's Samuel Wanjiru are both winners of the London Marathon.
