Labor leader and human-rights Activist who won the Nobel Prize in 1983 and was the President of Poland from 1990 to 1995. He helped form the 1989 Round Table Agreement that led to the first semi-free parliamentary elections in Poland in June 1989.
He worked as an electrician before co-founding Solidarity (Solidarność), the Soviet bloc's first independent trade union.
He was incarcerated for eleven months in 1982 for protesting for Union rights.
