In 2012 while undergoing medical tests at the University of South Florida, results showed that Omogbehin had a pituitary tumor in his brain. The tumor was responsible for his high Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1) levels, gigantism and Cushing Disease. The tumor was pressing on his optical nerves as well and would have caused blindness.
He underwent surgeries in 2012 and 2013 to remove the tumor. As a result, he now requires lifelong hormone replacement therapy since his body no longer produces testosterone naturally. Despite all that, he was medically cleared to play basketball.
