Born in the Adelaide suburb of Happy Valley, Ingles attended Pasadena High School. His junior club was the Southern Tigers. He later attended both Lake Ginninderra College and the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra with future Boomers teammates Brad Newley and Patty Mills.
